The European Commission adopted support for upgrading the carrying capacity of the Lithuania–Latvia gas interconnection

AB Lietuvos Dujos received final resolution of the European Commission of 13 August 2010 elaborating the procedure of application of the financial support allocated for the joint project of AB Lietuvos Dujos and Latvijas Gaze A/S (Latvia). Lithuanian and Latvian gas undertakings lodged their joint application for the allocation of the support for upgrading the carrying capacity of the Lithuanian–Latvian gas interconnection on 14 July 2009.

This project is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the natural gas interconnection between the two states, at upgrading the integration of the natural gas systems of the Baltic states, at creating conditions for the formation of the natural gas market of the Baltic states and for the preparation for the integration into the common natural gas market of the European Union.

This year, at the beginning of March, the European Commission gave its consent to allocate EUR 12.9 million (LTL 44.5 million) support for EUR 25.9 million (LTL 89.4 million) joint investments under implementation. The support allocated by the EU makes up 50% of the total cost of investments, whereas remaining 50% portion is financed at the expense of AB Lietuvos Dujos and Latvijas Gaze A/S.

The portion of the EU support allocated to AB Lietuvos Dujos makes up EUR 2.9 million (LTL 10.0 million).

In accordance with the project foreseen, AB Lietuvos Dujos will implement two measures: the modernization of the Panevezys Gas Compressor Station and the modernization of the pipelines. Suppliers, designing undertakings, and building contractors have been already selected in a way of the tenders announced. At the Panevezys Compressor Station, works have been already started.

As expected, AB Lietuvos Dujos completes the system upgrading works, by applying the funds allocated by the EU, by the end of 2013.
